Xperience Onboard Events
If it wasn’t for Kevin Crown bringing the jab jab vibes, I would have been annoyed. He switched things over and saved the night in my opinion. I was particularly excited about this after-party on Night 1 because Grenada soca was really great this year (and every year, if we are honest) so I was glad the organizers decided to pay particular focus on it.
TRINIDAD CARNIVAL 2019: FETE REVIEWS
This year, I rewore my costume from St. Lucia Carnival. J’ouvert is like a happiness elixir, as well as the most exhausting feat. This may have been one of my favorite, if not the best, j’ouverts I have experienced. It’s not the same as chipping behind a truck but the energy of the sea of people was remarkable. Unfortunately, the event was moved indoors to the Promenade, which naturally led to a spillover into the Star Lounge. I had a good time, but was feeling a bit stifled in my outfit in the close quarters.
Xperience Amazing Day at Taino Bay, Puerto Plata
The bouncing and jumping up was on another level and it was real RUKSHUN in the place. I was feeling ill due to seasickness, so I was not fully enjoying myself much. After about an hour, I was ready to go back to my room and change. I would have just slept the rest of the evening, but FOMO on the ship is real. You don’t want to be the person hearing about events that took place while you were next door.
St. Lucia Carnival 2019: A Review of Xuvo Carnival
This was the second pool party on our last full day on the ship. This was my reasoning behind how I ended up in the jacuzzi pelting my worries away. I changed, took some Dramamine and soldiered back out to join the party. It was a nice time and I could tell people were trying to forget the sway of the ship and make the most of it, but my stomach could not. I ended up calling it a night “early” (maybe 4am ish). If you think this experience is only about partying into the wee hours of the night, you are mistaken.
There were several places to eat on the ship, the most popular of which was at the Windjammer, aka the cafeteria. Also, factor in your transportation to the destination port, as well as a stay at a hotel or Airbnb (if you decide to arrive before the sail date). For me, I decided to go on Ubersoca Cruise at the end of August and was actively searching for someone selling their cabin spot. I lucked out with an affordable spot and was able to complete the name change and take over payments without issue. Ubersoca Cruise prides itself on being the largest Soca music festival at sea, and they have lived up to this reputation. It has been two weeks since I returned and I have been able to sift through videos and pictures and process the trip.

The people are really tired of hearing “get In yuh section “ a 8x in a row . But why do u have to play it right after the last dj . There are so many other songs that’s out now that people do not play , good ones too.
Small Island TURN UP
Those small island people have the most energy . Their soca is always on high , some songs had their own dances and everything . Another thing they ran that boat especially Virgin Islands . There was a moment where the dj crowd surf from one end to the other ( dj avalanche ) .

I decided to dress as my favorite African (Burkinabé) revolutionary, Thomas Sankara. I liked the twist to the standard all-white party with the toga infusion and most people dressed accordingly with gladiator sandals/slippers, leaf headbands, and gold embellishments. Before getting on the ship, we thought the lines would be ridiculously long but Royal Caribbean and Ubersoca Cruise ensured that there were mobile bars everywhere. The longest I may have ever waited for a drink may have been 5 minutes, if that. At one of the main event he got on somebody’s shoulders with virgin island flag and rode their shoulders through the crowd. –djs – please pay attention to the set prior to you .
Then I was determined to go to UberSoca on Ice so we changed and headed there for the last 30 minutes of the event and I had so much funnnnnnnn – even fell twice (but oh well). After that, definitely took a break and skipped the Theater Turn Up because 1. I wasn’t sold on the whole GOT theme and I didn’t have a ticket. Changed clothes for Game of Thrones Night at 12am and after headed to Small Island Turn Up. It’s humbling to see Soca music (which is scarcely recognized as its own genre), manifest its unrivalled energy and become the biggest theme cruise in the world, bigger than EDM, Reggae, Hip-Hop.
The DJs were playing our fave tracks, a couple of people were finishing their nips and there was a fete in the parking lot. We were doing last minute packing and giving our luggage to the cruise attendants, while catching up with friends and acquaintances. DAMM membership cost $250 and went towards your reservation if you decided to go. If you chose not to go, you were able to receive your money back (less $50 for administrative fees) within 2 days of official launch if you sent a written request to Ubersoca Cruise.
The crowd was dense and initially, I felt quite uncomfortable in the thick of it. We eventually moved to the outskirts a bit for relief and space to move. I eventually found my way onto the stage speakers, where I stayed until I was ready to leave. But by the time Lil Rick came on stage, I was a new woman!
In 2019, they sold out both sailings in just 10 days. Over 7,000 people from countries including Australia, Kuwait, Poland, France, Sweden, Japan, UK, USA, and the Caribbean— took part in this carefully curated and well-executed Caribbean experience. After taking a few cruises with his family, Nathaniel Turner realized that the programming on cruise ships didn’t necessarily cater to him, or Caribbean culture. Instead, he thought it would be pretty cool to create an experience for Caribbean culture in a cruise format. This year however, a destination I’ve never been to came up, so I decided to suck it up and try. After all, I’m always down to try something new at least once.
For maybe minutes of waiting, we were told it was the VIP line and that we had to join the other side (way down the block) but we held firm and waited it out. They let two of my friends in who had general admission and then blocked me and another friend for an additional 5 minutes and then came back, apologized and let us in (maybe the blogger Gods was with us, Idk). Upon entering, none of the tickets were “scannable” and they were just giving wristbands very haphazardly, but hey were we in with about 1.5 hours of party to go. I have to say the music was good because a variation of tunes were played.
